    Dr. Michael Gusenbauer

    Michael Gusenbauer is a senior research fellow at the Institute of Innovation Management at Johannes Kepler University Linz. He is PostDoc researcher at the Department of Strategic Management, Marketing and Tourism at the University of Innsbruck (AUT). Michael’s research interest is at the crossroads of innovation and strategy and complements this with investigations into the institutions organisational behaviour is contingent upon. Specifically, Michael is investigating multiple aspects in offshoring of innovation with special focus on conceptual fuzziness, and questions of optimal governance of intra- and inter-organisational relationships. Michael contributes to evidence-based management to make better use of the exponentially growing scientific knowledge in management. In his methods research on advanced knowledge discovery techniques he has initiated cross-disciplinary collaborations with the Technical University Vienna and Cochrane Austria.

    Michaels research has been published in outlets such as the Journal of Management Studies, Research Synthesis Methods and Scientometrics. The great practical impact of Michael’s work is evidenced by the 2019 Best-Paper Award “Innovation Management” from EBS University (2nd place) and his research on knowledge discovery currently (December 2019) ranking #1 in Research Synthesis Methods Journal (Altmetric Score 295), #7 in Scientometrics Journal (Altmetric Score 200). His work is featured in Science Magazine among others.

    Michael is reviewer for journals such as the Journal of Business Research or Journal of Small Business Management and he is a regular speaker at international management conferences such as the AOM Annual Meeting. Professionally, Michael has rich experience as the co-founder of das Kommod l Coworking and in working for an internationally operating management-consulting firm and the Austrian Trade Commission in Hong Kong.

    Michael holds a PhD from Johannes Kepler University Linz with a guest research visit at the Alliance Manchester Business School (UK). Throughout his studies he gained international research experience as part of the NEURUS program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) and his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). He obtained his master degree from the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business where he specialised in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and International Business.
