We are pleased to announce that the Housing and Communities Research Network at The University of Birmingham will be holding a conference on 9th July 2018. This event will draw on research led by Dr Richard Lang’s recent Marie Curie Fellowship with Housing and Communities Research Group on ‘Co-operative capital’ and consults on findings from that research comparing collaborative housing developments in England and Austria.
Community-led housing has been a key research topic for a number of years. A recent Special Issue of the International Journal of Housing Policy on ‘self-organised and civil society participation in housing’ included a co-authored paper by IFI-researcher Richard Lang and JKU-colleague Harald Stöger on collaborative housing models in Austria (http://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/mbkk34KAkFUDGFGSnT6W/full).
There is also great interest in enabling and influencing community-led housing in England and especially Birmingham, following the announcement of a Community Housing Fund in November 2017, and already established regional hubs for community housing in Leeds, Bristol, London and East Midlands (adding to existing umbrella organisations). This event will engage with activists, practitioners, policy makers and academics to promote community-led housing in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
