Third IIMP International Network Workshop in Austria

Third IFI/IIMP International Mountain Campus

For the third year running a group of international scholars have met in Austria to discuss current issues in innovation and entrepreneurship research.

Matthias Fink and Daniela Maresch of the IFI Institute for Innovation Management (IFI), Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria, arranged the workshop in order to bring scholars together to share findings from nationally based projects, discuss progress of mutual PhD student’s work, and explore possibilities for further projects. Among other things the possibilities of developing the BIZ4AGE (Business Opportunities for Healthy Ageing http://ww2.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/microsites/iimp/research_projects/biz4age.html) project for the Austrian context was discussed. Discussions were also had about developing a project on enterprise in challenging environments, building on the IIMP-based, Royal Society and British Academy funded Newton fellowship project investigating latent entrepreneurship in East Asia (see http://ww2.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/microsites/iimp/news/finnish_fellowship_award.html). Additionally, the possibilities to replicate the IFI report on additive manufacturing by Daniela Maresch and Johannes Gartner (both IFI) were discussed. Finally, a current funding bid on relational business between small and large firms submitted to Tekes, the Finish Funding Agency for Innovation, was presented and possibilities for know-how transfer to Austria and the UK were discussed.

Preparations were also made to hold a workshop at the IIMP in Cambridge on the topic of psychological ‘burnout’ in entrepreneurs. This will be held at the IIMP, ARU Cambridge on Mai 6. Andreas Rauch (IFI and University of Groningen) and Andreas Barnay (MedUni Graz) will present the findings of the large longitudinal scale survey among Austrian entrepreneurs that was conducted together with Isabella Hatak (IFI and WU Wien) and Matthias Fink (IFI).

Next year the IFI/IIMP International Mountain Campus will be held in Switzerland and will focus on entrepreneurship and innovation in medical technology.
