    Berthold Baurek-Karlic (born: Karlic) studied Management Science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. While studying, Berthold started his career at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank in 2003, specializing in statistics. Berthold was employed at an investment firm (MIFID) providing services to public entities, eventually becoming one of its managing directors. In parallel, Berthold co-founded the it-startup beigebracht.com (decono GmbH), and supported them as a business angel. In 2012, Berthold founded a consulting and venture investment company – Venionaire Capital (www.venionaire.com). One of the most significant achievements was the development and funding of the Business Angel Institute (www.businessangelinstitute.org) together with his partner Herwig Rollet. The Institute, supported by its academic board, developed a certificate of excellence for Business Angels (Certified Business Angel (CBA), ISO 17024).

    In addition to pursuing entrepreneurial career, Berthold is active in the academic field as a PhD student at the Institute of Innovation Management (IFI). His research focuses on financing of Equity, in particular on financing of early stage companies with regard to Business Angels. His research methods combine qualitative and quantitative approaches bolstered by innovative data acquisition techniques.
