Dr. Richard Lang speaking at housing conference in St Andrews, Scotland

On March 13 2014, Ifi-Researcher Richard Lang spoke at the ESRC Seminar “The Big Society, Localism and Housing Policy” at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

Richard brought in an international perspective on the co-operative movement, discussing the Austrian model of co-operative housing as a well institutionalised model of innovation ‘from above’. Although in contrast to the more bottom-up, localist innovation environment of co-operative housing in England, the experiences of state-led innovation in Austria can provide important lessons for implementing localism in housing today in the English context.
