As in many Scandinavian countries, also at Finnish universities, the defense of a dissertation is a major public event and one of the most important moments in an academic career. In this highly formalized ceremony the opponent publicly challenges all aspects of the dissertation project.
This March, Matthias Fik discussed Charlotta Siren’s cumulative Ph.D. thesis on strategic learning in high tech firms. As a result of the exciting two-hours dialogue that was followed by nearly two hundred academics, practitioners and friends, the evaluation board proposed to the faculty to grant the candidate the extremely rear evaluation “pass with distinction”. We congratulate Charlotta Siren, who has recently joined Teemu Kautonen’s team at Aalto University Helsinki, for this great success!
